IRTA

IRTA's activities are concerned with scientific research and technology transfer in the areas of agriculture, aquaculture and the agro-food industry in Catalonia. Within IRTA, the irrigation technology group has been working on water management at field level for the last 20 years, currently as the IRTA’s Water Use Efficiency Program (WUEP). The activities of this group have been oriented to determine orchard water requirements, to know how to use reduced amounts of water mainly in orchards, to work at the plant level to determine the behavior of plants and their productions under deficits condition, to know how to manage Regulated Deficit Irrigation (RDI) strategies, and to evaluate plant responses to low quality waters, among others. All that research has been complemented with a strong activity in technology transfer and collaboration with private companies (e.g. Codorniu, Torres, ASG, Agbar, Farell Instruments) and public institutions in the field of irrigation and water management (e.g. Catalan Department of Agriculture, Catalan Water Agency).

DAAM

The Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Food and Natural Environment s implementing since 2005 an irrigation plan with amongst others the objective of improving water savings through efficient use of irrigation water.

To achieve this objective the DAAM, through Agricultural Training School of Tarrega, has conducted a series of training and technology transfer activities in the field of irrigation.
